Life Opportunities Behavioral Health Services places children with therapeutic foster parents who are trained specially in caring for youth at risk.  Children become a part of their families, benefiting from the stability and sense of family belonging.

Strengthening Family Connections

With the support of their Therapeutic Foster Parents, children work to deal with behavioral health challenges such as trauma, anxiety and depression. We help them strengthen connections with their biological families, as appropriate, through a mix of mental health interventions that may include:

  • Coordination of care,  that ensures the child receives the appropriate therapies to meet their needs

  • Life Books, where children can keep photos and other meaningful reminders of their biological families to reinforce family connections and help them understand their life stories

  • Shared Parenting agreements to ensure that all caregivers are working together in the best interests of the child

  • Skill development for children to help them cope with change, develop social skills and build a positive self-image

Support for Behavioral Health Challenge

Our Therapeutic Foster Care clinicians coordinate a child’s person-centered plan, guiding the family through the process with the support of the Child and Family team. Our belief is that whatever behavioral health challenges a child and family is having, whether it’s anxiety, depression, problems in school or other challenges, the family possesses the natural strengths and abilities it needs to succeed—and we’re here to support them each step of the way.
